Job Title: Accountant II
FLSA Status: Exempt
Pay Scale: $38,000 to $50,000
Reports To: CFO
Responsible for complex activities associated with managing the nonprofit agency’s accounting system, processing of financial records, maintaining complete and accurate ledgers and developing the resultant managerial reports and financial statements. Assists the accounting manager with account reconciliations, monthly closing, and maintenance of accounting system. Supervises and assists with the preparation and processing of payroll, cash receipts, accounts payable and related matters. Reviews and maintains general ledger and prepares general journals. Produces various monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. Analyzes performance of accounting activities, determines areas for improvement and recommends changes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Ä Performs complex accounting procedures and techniques.
Ä Interprets financial information and consults with management in its use.
Ä Analyzes performance of accounting activities, determines areas for improvement, and recommends changes.
Ä Monitors cash balances, accounts payable, and accounts receivable, ensuring timely payment of obligations.
Ä Ensures that general ledger and sub ledgers accurately reflect the Agency’s financial position and performance.
Ä Assists with accounts reconciliations, monthly closing, and maintenance of Abila (Sage Fund Accounting) accounting system.
Ä Assists with various monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
Ä Ensures compliance with funding requirements.
Ä Supervises the accounting for grants and government contracts based on the budget and financial provisions.
Ä Facilitates contract audits by government funders.
Ä Oversees all A-133 database input and is primarily responsible for the preparation and assuring the accuracy of the Single Audit A-133 report.
Ä Monitors the preparation of account reconciliations and reviews them.
Ä Performs accounting research, assembles reports, summarizes findings, and makes appropriate recommendations to management based on the research.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Accounting. Three to five years of accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit organization.
